It’s been 20 years (how the time flies) since Dharma Productions released Kabhi Khushie Kabhi Gham to jam-packed theatres across India and overseas in 2001. Starring the real-life power couple Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan (Read about the latest power couple of Bollywood: Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif here), Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles, Kabhi Khushie Kabhi Gham became one of the cult films to be produced under the KJo banner. The characters of this family drama touched viewers hearts (and how) through their story, eccentricities – and most importantly some seriously good fits (who can forget the outfits Kareena Kapoor’s character Poo sports in the movie.)
As K3G clocked in twenty years of its glorious release this year (Side Note: Share this article if you too like us, want its sequel), various celebs from the Bollywood fraternity from Alia Bhatt to Jhanvi Kapoor (Related Reads: 8 Bold Blouse Designs That Will Remind You of Alia Bhatt’s Infinity Blouse) jumped right in to recreate the famous scenes from the movie in their own way. This goes on to prove that even the celebs (like us) stanned this movie to the core. See Alia Bhatt trying to impersonate Poo in the image below.
Coming to the most important part i.e. looks, Kabhi Khushie Kabhi Gham has a chockablock of ethnic fits to get inspired from; be it Kajol’s colorful sarees to the heavy suits she wears before getting married in the Raichand family. The good news is you can actually create your wardrobe inspired by Kabhi Khushie Kabhi Gham. Here are eight stylish looks from the movie you can *actually* create in a jiffy.
Remember the diaphanous green saree Kajol wore for the romantic number Sooraj Hua Maddham? This green Bandhej saree is giving us the exact similar feels (Plus, it’s super-light to wear too.)
It seems that green was one of the go-to color of Kajol’s character in Kabhi Khushie Kabhi Gham. Kajol here, can be seen wearing a light green Kurta-churidar set for one of the celebrations in the movie. The churidar set you see on her right matches the vibe of the outfit she wears in the movie.
In the song Sooraj Hua Maddham, Kajol is seen wearing different colored sarees. Since the romantic number is about sun and the moon, Kajol in the song is seen wearing an orange and white color saree to signify these two astronomical bodies -and, she particularly looks heavenly in the orange saree. The orange saree on the right is an ode to the heavenly qualities of sun – with the embroidery work on it signifying the shine of a morning sun.
Gone are the days when white saree was looked down upon culturally and sartorially. Wearing white today, is as stylish, as wearing the other color such as red, which makes it a must-have in every women’s closet.
Swing in style with this red ruffle saree with net unstitched blouse. A mix of classic and new-age silhouette, this red ruffle saree is perfect for the occasions requiring you to glam up a little.
When in doubt, wear black. A black ethnic outfit (just like LBD aka Little Black Dress) is a must-have in your closet. Take it from style icon Poo if you don’t believe us.
Palazzos in pink are one of the trendiest outfits to consider for an occasion like sangeet. Still having second thoughts, the image of Poo wearing one for the sangeet might just change your mind.
Remember Poo looking like a glamazon in red as she confidently matched up to Hrithik Roshan’s steps in You Are My Soniya? Well, this outfit is nothing short of glamorous quotient making you look like some diva in a jiffy.
